Garden Blogger's Bloom Day - April 2009

I haven't participated in GBBD for a while, but it is fun to be back in the groove.

Spring is slow to arrive at our zone 5 , 5,000 ft altitude garden in Utah, but we have daffodils blooming, crocuses, the ornamental cherry is almost ready to wow us.

Today I just want to show two new plants - a pink and a white violet that I got starts of from a kind neighbor .

I had no idea violets came in pink. And, yes, thanks for asking; I AM tickled pink

to have this little beauty in my garden!

Next is the white violet, just one bloom to show today.

Still, a special thrill. I've loved these white violets for a long time, and am so happy to have some!

These are the good old reliables, an impossible shade of blue/purple that I really never get tired of.

(Did you know it was also Irritate People w/ Prepositions Day????)

A church yard nearby has a hill with lots of the bluey-purpley ones.

Just a closeup here.

Happy Spring!

Happy GBBD!

Be sure to go to May Dreams Gardens, the home of GBBD.

Well, spring had to come sometime, even to Zone 5! :) Thanks for showcasing your wonderful array of violets. My mom has the fragrant dark purple (violet!) ones, mine are a spreading weed of the lighter variety, but I have never in my life seen a pink or a white one. Very cool. Happy Bloom Day!

The hillside of violets is beautiful. How lucky you are to have blue/purple, white and PINK violets. You already know this, but Utah is one gorgeous-looking state. At first I read it to be "Irate People w/Prepositions Day". Both make me laugh.

I am JEALOUS of the violets! Gorgeous! I love Utah-thoroughly enjoyed my visit there in 2006. Would love to go back.

I've never seen a pink violet, how beautiful is that! What a generous neighbor to share a bit with you. :) Happy Bloom Day!

Wow, all of those violets! The pink violet is beautiful. Are they fragrant? The violets were have here in the East aren't.

Very cute Violets! They are sweet. I used to live in SLC, actually I was raised there. My favorite neighborhood flower was the Lilac! The whole neighborhood was filled with them! Happy spring to you :)

Very pretty violets. I have mixed feelings about this plant, it is so invasive. That being said, in the proper place they are wonderful and I love the fragrance. Plus, they are edible and look very pretty in salads. I really like the pink one.

Our spring is even slower. I had to post photos from NYC. Your garden looks well worth waiting for. I love that field of purple. Magical!

I love those violets, too. We don't have any pink ones.

Hahaha, Muum. Did you grow up in the Midwest? I always laugh when those emails come around that say, "You know you grew up in the Midwest if..." and one of the answers is: "... you see nothing wrong with ending a sentence with a preposition!"

By the way, your violets are very sweet. Even the pink one (says the pink-hating girl)... :)

thanks for so many sweet comments! to answer a few questions.. I don't notice a smell w/ the violets, but I think it is just my lousy sense of smell.Whoever planted the purple violets placed them in a spot isolated from the lawn (smart!) by a set of gravel steps.. so they 'stay' in their spot and haven't invaded the lawn.
and, yeah, Black swamp girl, you know I am a Buckeye, too. :)
