Green Thumb Sunday - Carrot Harvest

I am harvesting my carrots as we need them. You can see from the photo that I should have done a better job of thinning in the spring! I planted two varieties, one was a red variety (I don't seem to have written down the variety in my gardening notebook). The red ones seem to have done better than the regular carrots in spite of being crowded. Oddly enough, the red color is only on the surface of the carrots, and can be scrubbed off if you clean too vigorously. The taste is the same. The only thing I noticed is that when I cooked the red carrots, they turned the water a bit pink.

What a nice array of carrots. Do they all taste the same, even while looking so different?
Happy GTS,

The only way that we eat parsnips, is to boil them for a bit, then put them in a roasting tin and drizzle some oil over them, not long before removing them drizzle some honey over them. Simply the most lovliest vegetable you will ever eat.

Cheers Mark

Thanks for the parsnips tip, Mark, we will have to try that.
Aiyana , the carrots do taste the same, even with a different appearance, which is surprising to me. Gotta find that seed packet and see what kind those red ones are!

There is something about those red carrots. I guess because they are so different. They just look so lovely and intriguing.

LOL,

I was going to comment on the weird carrots. It's strange how you come to think about fruits and veggies different when you are a gardener. Before the interest in gardening I never would have thought that carrots came in any color other than orange.
