SHOW and TELL Friday - clip on earrings

Show and Tell Friday is a fun way to browse around the web and meet new people and read great stories. Go to Kelli's blog, There is No Place Like Home, to see who else is participating! Garden blogger's Bloom Day is the next entry down the page.
Today I am showing something I got years ago at a garage sale. I was a teenager, and didn't really go to garage sales, but I stopped at one, and saw these earrings. I liked them then, and I still do. I don't suppose they are real opals, but I do love they way they look. I remember showing them to my mother, and she was not pleased that I had bought 'used' stuff and brought it home, as I recall. I have had it, over the years, in my jewelry box.

Now someone else is fascinated by them, my youngest daughter, who wants them when I am gone! I said ok! She thinks they are wonderful, too.

I hope they are real opals and real diamonds too. They are beautiful.

Very lovely. I love the story also. :) I have decided that I like opals. I never had a desire for opals until this year, so hopefully, I can get one someday. In the right setting they are gorgeous.

Your earrings are wonderful and what a sweet story.
When I saw the these earrings I ran to my jewelry box... I have their twins. They were a gift from my dad to my mom in 1957. I love them too. Hugs, Linda

I remember clip-on earrings! I thought my grandmother was the grandest lady, when she had them on.

Yout earrings remind me of my Grandma. Opal was her birthstone. Love them! I'm glad your daughter appreciates them.

They are BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow. They make me think of my grandmother, who passed away almost two years ago. She was a grand woman who loved her clothes and accessories, and was a gentle spirit. I miss her, but her best qualities live on in my mom.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful treasure. :)
Have a blessed day!

Your earrings are lovely. I used to have a similar pair and a man that I used to wait on in my waitressing days told me they were called 'Mexican Opals.' Maybe you could do some research?

thanks for sharing;

Different strokes for different folks! I have a daughter who doesn't care for antiques or "old junk" but 2 others that absolutely LOVE it! It's obvious that you found something that has appealed to you longer than most people who buy brand new stuff!

I don't remember the last time I saw earrings that screwed onto the back of the ear lobe. These have got to have some age on them. They have a really pretty stone in them. Nice choice for show and tell.

Lovely opal earrings. I think I see that they are the screw back kind of earrings? (thats very old) Now, if the back is open to the setting around each opal & the diamonds, they are real. Real stones need to have air circulate around them. Opals shrink and get bigger with heat & cold. You could also take them to a jeweler (for free) and have them look with an eye loop as well. I hope they are!

Very pretty earrings and great story. I remember the days when "used stuff" was considered somehow bad. What would the neighbors think! Nowadays, most people I know love to shop at Goodwill and hit the garage sales. I've found some real treasures at both.
