GARDEN BLOGGERS BLOOM DAY, June 2008

I am noting with a good deal of satisfaction that last year at this time, all the irises had been done blooming for two weeks. This spring has been a good deal cooler and longer than last year's. I still have another week or two to enjoy the irises. This is Malaguena, and is one of my new irises!
I saw this shiny blue beetle today on another iris. Hope it is not an iris-sucking crum-snucker, or something else sinister.

I know that gardening is not ALL about irises, but they have occupied my mind a lot lately. Here is some spiderwort that I got last year, and seems to be happy so far in the spots I have put it. Also blooming -
snow in summer,
red valerian,
roses are just starting to bloom,
phlox is still finishing up,
coreopsis,
silene (I think!),
California poppies,
cranesbill geranium,
the azalea,
white bleeding heart,
snowball viburnum, and the
love-in-a-mist is just starting to bloom.

The oriental poppies are blooming. I have a few new colors that don't look like they are going to bloom today. I like the orange, but am looking forward to red, and pink as well.

This is a new color of siberian iris for me, the dark purple ones are also blooming like mad.

The lupine is blooming.

Oh, and did I mention that my IRIS are blooming??? This is one that wandered out of our yard into the field next door. I plan to retrieve it. I love the velvety purple of the falls, don't you?

Don't miss out- go to the home of Garden Blogger's Bloom day, May Dream Gardens, and see what Carol and the other bloggers have in their gardens.

I'm still having some irises in my garden still, usually they would be gone a month or so ago. I just love your dark purple lupin.

I've only ever seen Utah in the winter so it's a treat to visit your garden. Your irises are gorgeous! I love the peach color on the first - makes me think of a silk chiffon dress more than a flower. I'm sad to be missing lupine season in Maine, where they grow wild across all meadows at this time of year, but in England the roses are lovely.

Thanks for dropping by my blog earlier....

Very pretty irises, especially the peach colored one. Often when I take macro shots, I don't even see the little bugs on the plant until I download the photos and look at them in slideshow view. That's how I found out that a plant had a mite infestation. Totally invisible to the naked eye!

Ohhhh - I love the peach ones! Love the poppies too. Actually - love them all!
Found your blog by way of Cheryl. You made a comment about grandkids being such a wonderful suprise to getting older (something to that effect) and touching tender parts of you (me, us) - whoever.
Just wanted to say I agree wholeheartedly!

My irises are done blooming so it was nice to see yours. Now I want more! And I hope to have some lupines next year, as I started some from seed this spring.

Thanks for joining in for bloom day again!

Hi there Muum :-)

Great photos for GBBD. I love the iris too and the lupin is a real beauty but I am a sucker for purple flowers!!

Have a great weekend :-D

I adore those lupines you have... the blues on yours are so deep! And I'm envying the orange poppies a bit. I planted some California poppies for the second time this year, with zero germination. (I suspect I might be sowing them too late.)

I always enjoy reading everyone's comments so much!
re CA poppies germination, they don't transplant well, so I start them under lights in peat pots and have fairly decent luck, then transplant them w/ out disturbing their roots. hope that helps!
