Show and Tell Friday - 'the good stuff'

I do look forward to show and tell every Friday! Thanks to Kelli at There is No Place Like Home for hosting this event. Be sure to head over to see what's going on.
When DH and I got married, we didn't 'register' anywhere. We had an extremely small and simple wedding. Needless to say, we didn't receive/have a set of china, i.e., 'the good stuff'.
One day we were browsing
thru a catalog sale and saw this set of stone ware.
It had a lot of qualities that helped us decide we should buy it -
1.) It was on sale! One of the cups or saucers was missing, I think.
2.) We both liked it. We had looked at some other sets and didn't seem to like the same patterns at all.
3.) Did I mention it was on sale?
Here is a closeup of the pattern, I like the blue, and the faded effect with some of the flowers.
For those of you 'in the know' about china and dishware, on the bottom it reads
'Kensington Staffordshire Ironstone England Balmoral 1801'.
Now I am sure this wasn't made in 1801, because, again; we bought it in a catalog store,
not an antique shop.
We have used it for special dinners with our children all these years, and I still treasure my lovely 'china'.

That looks very nice ! I think the date stands for the design creation of this Kensington company.

We were the same -- I don't know if we even knew anything about registering. We still don't have any china, but I would love to some day. Yours is beautiful -- and to have found it on sale is wonderful!!

Anything...ANYthing on sale is worth a lookie-loo, and to have the luck of finding something you not only need but like is another huge plus! I too love the blue print and the flowers! [also the embossed ring around the cups!]

Excellent find/buy!!

Happy Show n Tell Friday...have a great weekend. Stop by if you can find time!

We didn't register either. No one could have bought a piece if it was expensive so we were just given practicla items. Besides, I never liked the idea of expensive dishes bought and put away. I've heard people way they have never used theirs. What is the point?
I like to use what I have.
I like your set for two reasons: one it is blue and white like my Pfaltzgraff, and the cups are a decent size, more of a mug than a teacup.
I have acquird the Heritage pattern which is well used and I like to use them at Christmas time. My friend Patty recently gave me a 4 place setting collection that she'd had for a long time.
I'm glad you found a set that you and your mate both like.

I don't think there was such a thing as registering when we got married! My china came from a friend who gave it to me for Christmas one year - she loved to give the same china to all of her special friends. Very unusual!

Thanks so much for stopping over to visit my S&T today. Come back again, lease!

Lovely china, I love the blue! We didn't register anywhere either - we also had a very small gathering of family and friends. I have been fortunate to receive a few sets though from my mom that I remember growing up!
